This was an amazing speech, and an amazing and tragic time in our country's history. Both North and South were largely God-fearing men and women who fought over great ideals of freedom -- freedom of individual people not to be slaves, freedom of individual states not to be forced into agreements they didn't want. Thank goodness the North won! Still, the South had legitimate issues that were not addressed. A complex and multifaceted set of problems made worse by Lincoln's assassination...
